Origins to 1200

ERIN CUNNINGHAM

My school has used the WHP Origins course for years (since at least 2018!) with great success. However, we recently made the call to switch to the 1200 course for next year. We're hoping that scaling back the scope of the curriculum will give us more time for depth and skill development. With many of the 1200 materials already embedded in Origins, it doesn't feel like a daunting shift but more just a lengthening of what we already do.

Has anyone else made the switch from Origins to 1200? Any tips or tricks we should consider?

     depending on your school's pacing, it might be worthwhile to consider a 1200/1750 course combo. My standards are 1200-present, but I like to use the 1750 unit structure for the second semester to break content up into smaller, more manageable chunks. For reference, we end first semester with imperialism and start second semester with WWI.

    In the pre-OER days, our high school history course was early civilizations-present. It is so nice to be able to go into more depth with the class starting in 1200!

    Hi  ! Thanks so much for the advice. I'm going to work out a rough calendar/pacing guide soon so it's helpful to have 1750 in mind as the "turning point" between semesters. I'm looking forward to having the space to go into more depth on the material and having more time for extended projects or activities.
