Present Day Issues and Causation

We talked a lot in our session about preventing linear thinking and making sure students are able to identify multiple causes across a wide span of time. However, I think there was a missed opportunity to discuss how we as educators use causation to connect the past with the present. So... what strategies have you used to help students connect historical causation to present-day issues?

    My History of Science class is structured so that current day scientific discovers and cutting edge technology is analyzed through the events of the past. They are encouraged to take the big history approaches to understanding cause and effect and apply it to a current day breakthrough. They start to see how historical forces, such as energy consumption, communication, and themes of definition are still influences on science today.
