Connecting CCOT to Students' Lives

What are some engaging ways to connect CCOT to students' lives, helping them see patterns of historical change as relevant to the present?

    As a part of my classroom routine for World I, students complete a look and learn warm-up at the beginning of every class. Students are asked to look at an image of an artifact relating to the content we are learning in class and they answer the following questions: 1. What is it? 2. Why is it significant? 3. How does it connect to the world today? This follows the see, think, wonder thinking routine and students are able to make a lot of connections about class content to the modern world. Some are very simple like we still have some of the items today and some are as in depth as the similarities between the U.S. and Roman Senate.
