Sold a Story...

I guess if we consider maps data, I have my students complete annotated maps. An example, would I have my students map the early western river valleys (Mesopotamia and Egypt), use resources provided and then students have to look at their completed map and tell me where and with who would these river valleys trade with. I think this helps them place more context in their response as they can visually reference the places and civilizations they are talking about. I am excited to try a more direct approach to "tell a story" where students make use of specific data maybe more numbers to"tell a story" rather than simply using it as an evidence reference.
