While students may have practiced comparing and contrasting before, OER Project activities introduce a systematic approach to historical comparison. We show students how to describe similarities and differences between historical developments and processes, explain these similarities and differences, and evaluate their historical significance.
We recommend not skipping these activities, as they provide essential skills for writing comparison essays, which can be challenging. Students will learn different structures for crafting well-written comparison essays that thoughtfully address historical comparisons.
