Nevada Department of Education & OER Project Social Studies Teacher Professional Learning Series

The Nevada Department of Education Social Studies leadership and OER Project believe that teachers are the key to providing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to lead our country into the future. In that spirit, we are collaborating this year on a series of workshops for teachers looking to add a few new tools to their toolbox. Developing students’ skills in any social studies classroom is imperative to understanding the content. These sessions will dive deep into a particular skill and leave you with ideas and tools that can be implemented immediately in your classroom.  OER Project team members will collaborate with the Nevada Department of Education to design each session with your needs in mind. We are excited to begin this partnership and look forward to learning together throughout the school year.

Writing — Evidence Analysis – February 15, 2023, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. PT / 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. MT

In argumentative writing, making a claim is half the battle, but finding the evidence to support that claim helps you win the war. Providing students with the tools needed to strengthen their writing is paramount. Rubrics, formative feedback, and writing progressions assist teachers as they coach students to become successful writers. Join this session to equip yourself to help students reach the next level.
