The use of media in classrooms is a critical element to delivering important content, particularly in Social Studies courses.  However, how educators use media may cause or surface existing trauma with historically marginalized students.  This talk will focus on how the use of violent imagery can cause harm to students if not approached carefully.  It will also offer a framework from which to plan lessons that use violent media in a way that is sensitive to the needs of all students in our classrooms.  This talk is grounded in trauma-informed pedagogy, as well as anti-racist literature.
