I did too. I think the time is ripe for major change in our educational structure. Everything is so upturned, when we put the pieces back together, why not lets fix them to be more educationally stimulating and flexible for all kinds of different students? I think the biggest consideration right now is honestly not what students need, but how to make the school schedule fit conveniently with the work day schedule so parents have a place for their kids to go when they're not home.
I'm not saying that child supervision is unimportant. But does school really have to be a bell-to-bell corralling of herds of kids every day, all day? Why can't we have lots of overlapping models as part of public education?
We are certainly experiencing a restructuring of the workforce, breaking some long-held notions. Why not school too?
Oh, what a wonderful thought! It was so encouraging to hear such a visionary talk about where education is headed. The need to shift from the Industrial Model to a Knowledge-Based Model really resonated with me. Loved this conversation!
