The Power of Female Narratives - Caitlin Tripp

When we think of inclusivity of narrative in the history or social studies classroom, we are considering stories other than the ones traditionally told. That is to say, those that do not center the white, male view. In this talk, Caitlin Tripp discusses the power of offering our female students “mirrors”, and our male students “windows”, to brave, inquiring women in history. She tells the stories of Artemisia Gentileschi, Njinga of Ndongo and Matamba, and Manuela Saenz, and suggests others for our consideration. Women are explorers, scientists, writers, and revolutionaries—let us ensure our curriculum shares them with our students.
