Recorded February 29, 2024
We've gathered an expert panel of academics and educators to discuss how history comics can be used to help engage classroom learners and broaden their reading skills. OER Project's graphic biographies spotlight dozens of lesser-known but crucially important historical figures in comic strip format, giving teachers a tool to instantly broaden the historical narrative and improve representation. We'll explore reading comics as a form of pedagogy using examples from our free learning library.
Our panelists include:
Dr. Walter Greason, Afrofuturist scholar and Chair of the Department of History at Macalester College
Tessa Hulls, graphic novelist and author of Feeding Ghosts: A Graphic Memoir (2024, MCD)
Steph Manuel, illustrator and founder of TrueFiktion
Argha Manna, scientist and illustrator of Famine Tales of India and Britain
