OER Project Presents: Incorporating Indigenous Voices

Recorded October 3, 2023

How can we better incorporate Indigenous voices and resources into our classroom instruction? Due to inaccurate portrayals in the media, instructional texts, and historical interpretations, students (and educators!) have often left their classrooms with misconceptions around how they should think about Indigenous experiences around the world. In this session led by Dr. Natalie Martinez, we will discuss how to expand our collective understanding of the appropriate historiographical approach to Indigenous cultures and explore the pivotal experiences of specific Indigenous groups through history. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about how they can work to audit and supplement their curricular offerings in order to make sure their classrooms are both supportive of student understanding and inclusive of diverse Indigenous experiences.
